Abstract
  • This study aims to explore the fusion of traditional Chinese and Western artistic elements in Wu Guanzhong’s landscape paintings. The research focuses on the principles of balance, harmony, and innovation that characterize his work, and investigates how these concepts contribute to the evolution of modern Chinese landscape painting. A systematic review methodology is employed, analyzing 34 key studies, books, exhibition catalogs, and art critiques from 1980 to the present. The review examines Wu’s integration of Eastern and Western artistic traditions, with a focus on his use of color, brushwork, abstraction, and dynamic composition. The study applies a qualitative thematic analysis to identify common themes and interpret the significance of Wu’s artistic contributions. The review reveals that Wu Guanzhong successfully blends traditional Chinese techniques, such as ink wash and expressive brushstrokes, with modernist elements like abstraction and vibrant color. His paintings embody a unique balance between spiritual connection to nature and innovative expression, redefining landscape painting by integrating contemporary techniques while maintaining a deep cultural foundation. This study contributes to the understanding of Wu Guanzhong’s transformative impact on modern Chinese art, offering insights into the synthesis of cultural traditions and the role of innovation in the development of landscape painting. It also provides a framework for future research on cross-cultural artistic synthesis in global art movements.
