Abstract
  • The relationship between victims and perpetrators is another important aspect that should be focused on while discussing the issue of domestic violence. The connections between the victim and the perpetrator vary from intimate partners to unknown suspects. The variations of relationship could be between married or non-married parents; former or current spouses; significant others, such as in-laws, family members or relatives; boyfriend-girlfriend dating or acquaintances. This paper reviews past research on intimate partner violence in relation to the demographic characteristics of the perpetrators as well as the victims and the survivors of domestic violence. This paper also attempts to offer some insights about common profiles of the abused and their counterpart. The main objective is to provide a conceptual basic to understand findings from previous studies around domestic violence issues. This article is useful in gaining basic conceptual ideas of whom the abusive partners are and their victims in domestic violence relationships.
