Abstract
  • Poverty, hunger, food waste, and inefficient coordination of food aid are global challenges that hinder effective support for those in need. Therefore, this study proposed ShareABite, a digital platform aimed at promoting sustainable food donation practices through community engagement. This study emphasizes how ShareABite can foster a culture of giving, reduce food waste, and improve the effectiveness of food aid efforts, ultimately making it easier for individuals to contribute to their communities and support those in need. This platform focuses on money donations, food donations, volunteer opportunities, and more efficient management of soup kitchens and food distribution. This study employs the design thinking methodology, which includes five main steps: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test to develop the ShareABite interface. The Figma application is the primary tool used to develop ShareABite. Usability testing was conducted twice (pre-test and post-test) using the System Usability Scale (SUS), which involved five respondents from Universiti Putra Malaysia. The respondents provided feedback on navigation ease, clarity of key features, and the visual appeal of the platform. The SUS results highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the platform. The findings indicate an improvement in the results, with the post-test score reaching 89.5 compared to 68.5 during the pre-test. These results show that the proposed features for ShareABite have met the acceptable standard. ShareABite shows the commitment to reducing food waste and empowering community involvement, demonstrating technology's potential to drive social change. In the near future, it is expected that ShareABite will be further developed and deployed, particularly to the organizations or agencies involved in charity work.
