Abstract
  • Kuasa simbolik maskuliniti dan minat dalam sukan pemotoran adalah suatu dorongan yang mencetuskan fenomena lumba haram di Malaysia. Apabila keinginan ini disekat akibat daripada ketiadaan tempat perlumbaan, kekangan undang-undang telah menyebabkan mereka beralih arah melakukan kegiatan ini di jalan-jalan awam. Kuasa simbolik maskuliniti adalah suatu identiti yang memainkan peranan penting dalam gaya hidup seorang lelaki. Walaupun, kepentingan identiti maskuliniti telah banyak dibahas dalam literatur agresif lelaki, sangat sedikit yang diketahui mengenai makna identiti maskuliniti dalam suasana di Malaysia. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna maskuliniti (kejantanan) dalam kalangan pelumba motosikal haram di Pulau Pinang Malaysia. Kajian kualitatif ini menggunakan kaedah temu bual secara mendalam dengan 30 orang lelaki muda Malaysia, 19 hingga 28 tahun dari kumpulan etnik Melayu di Pulau Pinang. Pendekatan analisis tematik digunakan untuk mengekstrak data. Perisian kualitatif NVIVO versi 11 digunakan untuk pengurusan data. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan identiti maskuliniti bagi Mat Rempit yang mendorong keinginan untuk berlumba adalah gaya pemanduan sembrono, tingkah laku playboy, dan penampilan macho. Kesemua faktor ini dianggap sebagai pra-syarat maskuliniti utama ketika ini dan mencerminkan peranan maskulin pada masa depan seperti yang diberi makna oleh para peserta. Kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa kesemua faktor ini membantu untuk pengukuhan makna kejantanan terhadap keinginan berlumba bagi Mat Rempit. Cadangan kajian yang harus dipertimbangkan oleh penyelidik akan datang adalah memberi tumpuan kepada perkembangan kesihatan maskuliniti daripada sudut membina sikap, tingkah laku dan peranan yang sihat. Kesimpulannya, perkembangan identiti maskulin yang sihat membantu menangani budaya popular ini daripada terus berleluasa.
