Abstract
  • This aim of this study was to develop a simple module to introduce R programming to students in secondary school, that can be served as an enrichment activity for learning sub-topic Measures of Central Tendency. As an enrichment activity, this module focuses on embedding technology-based learning and R programming into teaching and learning process. This study employed a quantitative Developmental Research Design (DRD) approach, guided by the ADDIE model. The research instruments used were MidRata Evaluation Form and MidRata Usability Questionnaire. For validation purpose, 3 experts in the field of Mathematics Education were appointed, consisting of 1 lecturer from a higher education institution and 2 secondary school teachers with more than 5 years of teaching experience. A pilot study was also conducted among 14 students to determine the reliability of the instrument. The study sample comprised of 30 students of Form 4, selected via convenience sampling. The findings indicated that the MidRata module has a high degree of validity (scale-content validity index/average, S-CVI/AVE = 0.99) and high usability (98.7%), in terms of of design, content and user satisfaction. To conclude, the MidRata module can be used as an enrichment activity that promotes students’engagement in learning and encourages the integration of technology and programming to support understanding of statistical concepts.
