Abstract
  • This study was an investigation on difficulties of process oriented approach. The study utilized both a quantitative and qualitative research aimed at determining of the difficulties of process oriented approach which Iranian postgraduate students faced in IEC classes. Thirty participants were selected from different fields in IEC classes at UTM. These respondents had 5 or 5.5 mark of English language proficiency (IELTS), a situation faced by many students in this area who never used English language outside the school or university. The instruments used in this study were questionnaire and interview to determine students’ perception on the use of process oriented approach and also to investigate which features of process approach were adapted by students. Data of questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS version 17 in Likert scale to determine the respondents’ perception of using process oriented approach and identify its difficulties. In addition, interviews were transcribed to investigate adapted features of process approach in improvement of learning writing. Results of the study indicate that the students have positive attitudes about using process oriented approach and the difficulties of process approach could be removed by using useful strategies of process oriented approach. It is hoped that the findings of this research would provide the reason that lecturers consider more on international needs and shed light on the strategies of process oriented approach to teach writing.
