Abstract
To elucidate the evolution and current status of the primary application domains of virtual presence theory since its inception and to address the gap in systematic reviews within this field, this paper employs a literature review method to retrieve and analyze relevant studies. The findings indicate that virtual presence theory was initially applied in communication, its birthplace, before expanding to online gaming, where its application has matured significantly. E-commerce has emerged as the most prominent and rapidly developing field, and with the advent of artificial intelligence, it shows even more tremendous promise. The study also lacks attention to emerging communication methods and mobile platforms, with existing research being coarse-grained. Future applications should focus on mobile learning performance, mobile platform design and optimization, trends in e-commerce development, AI applications in human-computer interaction, and new domains emerging from advancements in communication technologies.
