Abstract
This study investigates the determinants of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure among Malaysian listed banks, focusing on the Power Trio of Corporate, Governance, and Technological factors. The independent variables include firm size and market capitalization (Corporate), women empowerment (Governance), and fintech disclosure (Technology), while CSR disclosure serves as the dependent variable. Guided by Signaling Theory, Legitimacy Theory, and Diffusion of Innovation Theory, the study examines how these dimensions collectively influence sustainability transparency in the banking sector. A quantitative research design was adopted, using secondary data extracted from annual reports, integrated reports, and sustainability disclosures of ten major Malaysian banks spanning 2011 to 2024, resulting in 140 firm-year observations. Women empowerment negatively influences CSR disclosure, suggesting that higher female board representation does not automatically enhance CSR transparency. In contrast, firm size and market capitalization positively impact CSR, consistent with Signaling and Legitimacy Theories. Meanwhile, fintech disclosure exhibits a negative relationship with CSR, reflecting a trade-off between technological innovation and sustainability communication, as explained by Diffusion of Innovation Theory. The study contributes to the literature by integrating corporate, governance, and technological determinants into a unified framework for CSR disclosure, highlighting the evolving dynamics in Malaysia’s banking sector. The findings offer practical insights for bank managers, regulators, and policymakers on balancing ESG commitments with digital transformation.
