Abstract
  • The Craft of Gardens, written by Ji Cheng in the late Ming Dynasty, is an important classic in the history of classical gardens in China. The outstanding achievement of this book is not only due to the author's profound artistic knowledge, but also due to his rich practice experience. The basic principles that should be followed in garden constructions are one of the important contents of this book. Based on the analysis of Ji Cheng's views on garden construction in The Craft of Gardens, combined with China's ancient literature and philosophy, this paper summarizes and discusses the principles of garden construction in The Craft of Gardens from five aspects of design, innovation, cooperation, process control and emotional construction. It is found that The Craft of Gardens is not only an important summary of the design concepts of China classical gardens, but also plays a guidance role in landscape engineering. This not only provides a brand-new perspective for the study of The Craft of Gardens, but also provides certain theoretical support for the implementation and management of architecture engineering under the current social background.
