Quantitative data was collected through a survey using an online questionnaire. 114 undergraduate students participated in the quantitative survey. The qualitative data comprised students work during the lesson was analysed. The study found that: i) the differences of the language structure between the acquiring language and the respondents’ first language is the main challenge faced by the respondents; ii) the individual problem is also the challenge faced by the respondents in acquiring Mandarin language. Equipping the undergraduates with the soft skill of multilingual communicative competency is indeed important, the researchers suggest that the instructors should understand the problem/s faced by their student and use effective teaching or pedagogical method such as computer programs and the use of AI will be able to achieve vision.
