Abstract
  • Anshun Dixi is a representative of ancient Chinese traditional opera. It is called the “living fossil of opera” because of its rough performance and long history. By investigating the performance form of Anshun Dixi, we found that “virtuality” is a defining dimension of the tradition. Virtuality displayed in stage scenery, costumes, and performances has broadened the creative space of Anshun Dixi and enriched the audience’s aesthetic experience. In addition, Anshun Dixi combines the characteristics of virtuality with Tunpu culture and interprets the Tunpu people’s narration of history, the praise of heroes, and the identification of ethnic identity.
