Flood protection:Takaful for small scale agriculture and micro business

Abstract
  • The study aimed to explore on potential collaboration between agriculture and microbusinesses’ agencies and takaful operators in co-ordinating the takaful contribution from participants from these economic sectors. This research is based on the earlier study by researchers on the flood victims. As reported, the flood victims are defencelessness, they are vulnerable and suffering from the economic and financial losses. The research employed qualitative method of study where in depth semi-structured interview was conducted with the top management of selected takaful operators. Findings shows that takaful operators are willing to collaborate with agencies of agriculture and microbusinesses in providing protection to its members. Contribution Integration Model for agricultures and micro businesses is formed in order to manage the participants’ contribution. The effort is to enable the members and their economic activities are continuously protected. Protection from the flood risks is one of the mitigation reduction strategies employed often by developed countries.
