This study presents an initial ergonomic risk assessment (ERA) conducted at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Bukit Besi, focusing on administrative staff within the Academic Affairs and Student Welfare departments. The assessment was initiated in response to complaints of musculoskeletal discomfort, particularly in the neck, shoulders, back, and wrists. The core problem identified was the prolonged exposure to awkward postures, static work positions, and repetitive motions due to extended computer use, document handling, and meetings, without proper ergonomic interventions. The main objective was to identify key ergonomic risk factors, determine the severity of harm, and propose suitable control measures. Using tools such as the Cornell Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and the DOSH Initial ERA Checklist, the results revealed that workers were at significant risk from poor seating posture, fixed head and wrist angles, and repetitive typing and mouse use. The findings confirmed the need for advanced ERA and immediate improvements. In conclusion, the study highlights the need for better workstation design, job rotation, and regular movement to prevent musculoskeletal disorders and enhance workplace health. It recommends introducing ergonomic furniture, micro-breaks, posture training, and supportive policies to reduce long-term health risks among office workers.
