Faktor tekanan dalam kalangan pelajar Universiti Sains Malaysia: satu tinjauan awal

Abstract
  • Tekanan adalah berkait rapat dengan isu kesihatan mental. Isu tekanan dalam kalangan pelajar universiti bukan sesuatu perkara yang baru dan ia mencetuskan kebimbangan pelbagai pihak. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji faktor tekanan dalam kalangan pelajar Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) dari aspek pembelajaran, kewangan dan peribadi. Kaedah borang kaji selidik digunakan dengan melibatkan seramai 100 responden pelajar yang dipilih secara rawak. Lokasi kajian dijalankan di kampus induk USM yang terletak di daerah Timur Laut, Pulau Pinang. Analisis statistik deskriptif digunakan untuk mendapatkan nilai kekerapan, peratusan dan min. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa bagi aspek pembelajaran, item tertinggi ialah “saya sukar memahami apa yang diajar oleh pensyarah sewaktu pembelajaran” dengan nilai min sebanyak (M=4.01). Bagi aspek kewangan, item tertinggi ialah “saya memerlukan kerja sambilan untuk menampung hidup di kampus” dengan nilai min sebanyak (M=4.08). Bagi aspek peribadi pula, item tertinggi ialah “saya sering bimbang tentang masa hadapan” dengan nilai min sebanyak (M=4.30). Keseluruhannya, aspek pembelajaran merupakan faktor tekanan yang dominan dalam kalangan pelajar USM dengan mencatatkan nilai min sebanyak (M=3.72) berbanding aspek kewangan (M=3.61) dan peribadi (M=3.30). Kajian ini dirujuk penting kepada masyarakat terutama ibu bapa dan pihak universiti agar lebih peka dengan isu tekanan dalam kalangan pelajar demi kesejahteraan kesihatan mental mereka.
