Abstract
  • Managing construction waste has become a crucial aspect of promoting sustainable development. The growth of the Malaysian economy has resulted in a notable rise in construction projects, thereby contributing to the issue of waste generation in construction projects. Hence, implementing efficient waste management strategies is imperative to avert and redirect construction waste dumped into landfills. This study was conducted to identify the best practices of construction waste minimisation in construction projects and to determine the best practices indicators for the effectiveness and importance of construction waste minimisation. This study involved two phases of the data collection method, which were semi-structured interviews and questionnaire surveys. First, data from the semi-structured interviews with eleven (11) construction practitioners were analysed using thematic analysis. Then the analysed data was used to develop a questionnaire survey. Next, the questionnaire survey was distributed to 153 construction practitioners in the Klang Valley area. The survey results were ranked with the Relative Importance Index (RII). The most important best practices indicator is "Effective communication on-site”, and the least is "Appointment of labour just for waste management." In conclusion, these indicators are essential in the assessment of best practices for construction waste minimisation in a construction project.
