Abstract
  • Total Physical Response (TPR) merupakan kaedah pengajaran yang diperkenalkan oleh Dr. James J. Asher, seorang profesor psikologi di San Jose State University di California pada tahun 1960-an. Kaedah pengajaran ini digunakan secara meluas di dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa asing, contohnya bahasa Sepanyol, bahasa Perancis, bahasa Jepun dan sebagainya. Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengkaji persepsi pelajar dari universiti teknikal tempatan terhadap kaedah pengajaran TPR yang digunakan dalam kelas bahasa Mandarin sebagai bahasa asing peringkat permulaan. Sampel kajian adalah pelajar bukan penutur natif bahasa Mandarin. Kajian ini dijalankan di Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT). Soal selidik dan temu bual digunakan sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpul data. Seramai 32 orang pelajar terlibat dalam soal selidik manakala 16 orang pelajar daripadanya terlibat dalam temu bual. Secara keseluruhan, responden menerima baik kaedah pengajaran TPR. Pelajar memberi maklum balas yang positif dan memberangsangkan terhadapnya. Kajian ini diharap akan memberi inspirasi kepada pengajar di institusi pendidikan tinggi awam (IPTA) dan institusi pendidikan tinggi swasta (IPTS) agar menggunakan kaedah pengajaran ini secara meluas.
