Tools in process observation analysis as a means of understanding group atmosphre, participation, and task behaviors

Abstract
  • Process observation analysis is a method of observational research that highlights process elements of participation, task behavior and group atmosphere in group discussion. The study obtained data from organizations including student clubs, religious group, and one from multi-media field. Using observational research techniques the study included collecting data from observations and interviews. Among the tools used in data collection were semi-structured interview guides, audio recorders, and direct observation. The results of the study show the effectiveness and usability of participation matrix in three organizations. The tools used for process observation revealed the essence of the role of each member of the organization. The group atmosphere analysis and observation matrix described the productive mood from the start to the end of the discussion. The study also highlights the list of observe statements and behaviors seen during the discussion.
