The use of participation matrix in understanding the engagement of participants in a meeting: A process observation analysis

Abstract
  • Using observational research specifically the use of participation matrix as a tool the study focuses on understanding the involvement of representatives from various organizations set up in group discussion. Qualitative research was used in the study. Among the steps involved in the research method were: interviews, and transcribing the statements from the group discussion. The study aimed to determine the highest and the lowest participators in the group, the shift in participation, the possible reason for interaction, to identify who keeps the ball rolling, and to determine how the silent people were treated. The results of the study suggested that the highest participators normally the presiders.
