Analysis of individual task behaviors using process observation

Abstract
  • The process observation analysis focused on how to examine the behaviors relevant to the group’s fulfillment of tasks considering the behavior of individuals in group discussions. Among the types of organizations considered in the study were: religious organization; academic student organization; and multimedia, in the national Capital Region of the Philippines. Among the task behaviors considered were: initiating, seeking information and opinions, giving information and opinions, clarifying and elaborating, summarizing, and consensus testing—were used to study the six-task behavior during the conference. The qualitative observational method was used to examine the level of participation in the discussions. The observers used an audio recorder to produce a transcript and minutes of the meetings. The results of the study showed that among the three different organizations, mostly the presider or chairperson of the organization usually are the high participators. The high participators also the ones who aim to initiate, seek information, give an opinion, clarifies, elaborates, summarize, and sphere head consensus testing in the discussion.
