Abstract
  • The rapid growth of electronic commerce has intensified consumer reliance on peer-generated information when making purchasing decisions, particularly among Generation Z consumers who navigate highly interactive and socially embedded digital environments. Advances in social commerce, algorithmic content curation, and artificial intelligence–assisted content creation have reshaped how evaluative information is produced, interpreted, and trusted. This article examines the influence of such evaluative content on e-commerce purchase decision-making among Generation Z by integrating contemporary theoretical perspectives and recent empirical evidence. The analysis addresses critical dimensions that define current digital marketplaces, including authenticity risk, platform governance, hybrid evaluative environments involving peers and influencers, information overload, and contextual variability across platforms and product categories. The findings indicate that purchasing behavior among Generation Z is increasingly driven by credibility assessments, transparency expectations, and social alignment rather than by evaluative intensity or positivity alone. Consumers within this cohort actively scrutinize source reliability, platform integrity, and socially embedded cues before incorporating evaluative information into their decision processes. The article further emphasizes the role of platform-level mechanisms, such as verification systems, moderation practices, and algorithmic transparency, in sustaining trust and reinforcing evaluative effectiveness. By advancing a Generation Z–focused perspective, this study contributes to the refinement of digital consumer behavior and electronic word-of-mouth frameworks while offering practical implications for platforms, marketers, and policymakers seeking to support informed decision-making in evolving e-commerce ecosystems.
