Abstract
  • This study investigates the impact of Western music composition implementation on the musical development of students and evaluates their perspectives on the effectiveness of the current curriculum. The research involved a survey of 37 students majoring in various music disciplines, examining their preferences, priorities, and perceived improvements in music composition skills. Key findings indicate a strong positive correlation between students' preference for Western music composition and their prioritization of its study, leading to significant improvements in overall music composition skills. Additionally, the ease of learning with current educational materials was found to significantly enhance the perceived quality of music education. Differences in perceived ease of learning among different majors highlight the need for tailored educational resources. The study also underscores the critical role of teacher preparation in delivering effective Western music composition lessons. These findings suggest that integrating Western music composition more comprehensively into the curriculum can substantially benefit students' musical development. The study concludes with recommendations for curriculum modifications, emphasizing enhanced teacher training and the development of specialized learning materials.
