Abstract
  • This study examines the preservation and innovation of Miao pattern arts by analyzing their subjects, forms, and colours. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing quantitative and qualitative data through a survey and interviews with 400 participants, including artisans, designers, and cultural performers. The findings indicate the cultural significance of Miao patterns, the traditional challenges in handcraft development stemming from economic and market factors, and the contemporary adaptations observed. The identified major themes and subthemes highlight the significance of mentorship and community involvement in preserving the arts and the challenges posed by the tension between adherence to tradition and the pursuit of innovation. The role of ICT in shaping and mediating self, work, and community presents opportunities and challenges concerning the notion of authenticity. This paper demonstrates the necessity for economic policies that bolster artisans' financial capacities and educational promotional efforts to engage younger generations. The discussion encompasses the maintenance and preservation of traditional arts, alongside their application in contemporary society, while providing practical strategies for enhancing both objectives.
