Abstract
  • This study conducts an in-depth examination of the impact of modernization on the architectural integrity of traditional Korean houses in Yanbian. It specifically investigates the interplay between urban-rural integration, changes in government policy, and the preservation of cultural heritage. As modernization continues to advance, traditional structures are confronted with significant challenges that threaten both their design and cultural significance. These challenges arise from rapid urbanization, which alters settlement patterns, and from evolving rural development trends that influence construction methods and materials.The analysis delves into how urban expansion and rural development can lead to a shift in the architectural landscape, often prioritizing contemporary building practices over traditional ones. It also critically evaluates government policies, assessing whether they effectively support the preservation of traditional architecture or inadvertently contribute to its decline. Ultimately, this research aims to deepen the understanding of how contemporary development affects traditional architecture and suggest viable strategies for balancing the forces of modernization with the need to preserve cultural heritage. By doing so, the study seeks to contribute to a more nuanced approach that respects both the historical significance of these structures and the inevitable changes that modernization brings.
