Abstract
  • This study investigates the visual appeal of Yichun Carving in contemporary restaurant design, concentrating on customer perceptions within Shanghai, China. Drawing on cultural and aesthetic theory, the research explores how traditional Yichun Carving—characterized by its intricate craftsmanship and historical significance—can be integrated into modern dining environments to enhance the ambiance and attractively present elements of Chinese heritage. By assessing several design components, including the integration of Yichun Carving, authenticity in carving style, spatial positioning, lighting, and consumer acquaintance with traditional Chinese art, this study intends to determine how these factors influence customer judgements of aesthetic attractiveness. Data collected from restaurant patrons will provide insight into how cultural arts effects customer experience in dining areas. This research contributes to the topic of cultural aesthetics in design, delivering practical insights for restaurant designers and contributing to the understanding of traditional Chinese art forms in commercial contexts.
