Conceptualizing the mediating role of organizational culture in the relationship between personality and conflict management

Abstract
  • Conflict management is a prevalent issue among lecturers within the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) institutions, significantly impacting both individual performance and organizational effectiveness. This study aims to investigate the relationship between personality traits and conflict management strategies among MTUN lecturers, with perceived organizational culture serving as a mediating factor. The conflict management strategies examined include competing, accommodating, avoiding, collaborating, and compromising. A quantitative research design will be employed, utilizing a convenience sampling technique to distribute 800 questionnaires to lecturers at four MTUN universities: Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The target sample size is 400 respondents to ensure adequate representation and account for potential non-responses. Data will be analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to test the mediating role of organizational culture in the relationship between personality traits and conflict management strategies. The analysis is expected to reveal significant relationships between lecturers' personality traits and their chosen conflict management strategies, with organizational culture playing a crucial mediating role. These findings will provide deeper insights into how organizational culture influences the ways in which lecturers manage conflicts. The research will conclude by offering several recommendations to enhance conflict management practices among MTUN lecturers. By understanding the interplay between personality, organizational culture, and conflict management, institutions can implement targeted strategies to foster a more harmonious and productive academic environment.
