Abstract
  • China's "reform and opening up" has driven economic development and promoted urban modernization. At the same time, cultural transformation has brought about changes in the themes of Chinese visual art. This study aims to investigate, study, and explain how urban modernization is represented in modern Chinese paintings in the context of China's modernization development. The researcher used qualitative research methods, analyzed documents, and observed artistic works to try to interpret the symbolic meaning and value of urban modernization representation in modern Chinese paintings. The research results prove that urban modernization in the works reflects the current living conditions and various social problems of urbanites after the "reform and opening up". All these problems come from the social changes that have occurred in China during the process of urban modernization, and are expressed through the unique painting language of modern Chinese painting.
