Abstract
  • This paper reports important insights of six (6) living composers through one-on-one and face-to-face interviews, conducted in 2023, to determine characteristics and values of modern Mandarin children songs. Despite their simplicity in compositional structures to fulfill uncomplicated singing styles, under the influence of modernization, the modern children songs project more prominently the developmental and psychological dimensions closely integrated in contemporary popular elements. Children songs thus do not just merely provide entertainment but also inculcate cultural and educational values impacting children’s cognitive development and social identities.
