Emotional intelligence and resilience with academic achievement among gifted students

Abstract
  • The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and resilience with academic achievement among gifted students in ASASIpintar, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. A total of 85 ASASIpintar students were chosen to be the sample to participate in this research which came from different gender, race and family income. The samples were given a set of questionnaire regarding emotional intelligence which was The Quick Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment and a set of questionnaire to measure resilience level which was The Personal Resilience Questionnaire. Academic achievement was assessed by semester one final examination’s CGPA. Data collected were analyzed through descriptive statistics to measure the emotional intelligence level and resilience level. Furthermore, Pearson correlation was used to measure the relationship between emotional intelligence and resilience with academic achievement. Results of this study showed that there is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and resilience with academic achievement. Implication of this study is to help teachers and parents about the importance of emotional intelligence to increase level of resilience and to achieve better academic results among students. Suggestion of this research is to expand the research among normal students. As a conclusion, the higher of level emotional intelligence, the higher level of resilience.
