Abstract
  • This systematic review explores the role of information technology (IT) capabilities in enhancing the agility of libraries, focusing on both academic and public library contexts. It aims to synthesize current research and identify how IT capabilities influence library performance and adaptability in the face of rapid technological and societal changes. Employing a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology, this study rigorously examines a wide range of peer-reviewed articles and research studies published in the last decade. The review process involved detailed inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure a comprehensive assessment of relevant literature. Sources were evaluated for quality, relevance, and contribution to understanding the relationship between IT capabilities and library agility. Libraries with robust digital infrastructure, including integrated library systems (ILS), digital repositories, and cloud-based solutions, demonstrate greater agility in service delivery and resource management. Utilization of data analytics enables libraries to better understand user needs, optimize operations, and make data-driven decisions that enhance flexibility and responsiveness. Tools such as mobile applications, virtual reference services, and social media platforms are instrumental in improving user engagement and outreach, thereby supporting library agility. Effective training programs in IT skills are crucial for empowering library staff to leverage new technologies and drive innovation. The findings underscore the importance of investing in advanced IT capabilities to bolster library agility. Libraries are encouraged to prioritize technological advancements, foster a culture of continuous learning, and develop strategies that integrate IT into their core operations. These practices will enable libraries to remain relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of their communities. This review offers a comprehensive analysis of how IT capabilities influence library agility, providing new insights into effective practices and strategies for both academic and public libraries. It contributes to the broader discourse on library management and technology by identifying key areas for future research and practical application.
