Abstract
  • This concept paper explores the potential of establishing Crime Prevention Clubs (CPCs) in Malaysian workplaces as a strategic solution to escalating concerns surrounding safety, security, and crime prevention. Workplace crime, including theft, vandalism, and interpersonal violence, poses significant challenges for organisations, impacting employee morale, productivity, and operational continuity. CPCs are envisioned as proactive, employee-driven initiatives inspired by the success of community-based crime prevention strategies. Their core mission is to foster crime awareness, encourage preventive measures, and promote collaboration among employees, management, and external stakeholders. Key government agencies, such as the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), and the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), are recognised as essential partners in facilitating CPC implementation. Their contributions include security audits, training programmes, and support in policy development, ensuring a robust foundation for CPC operations. Additionally, CPCs align with the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which emphasises reducing violence, enhancing safety, and strengthening institutional governance. The anticipated benefits of CPCs are multifaceted. They include bolstered workplace security through reduced crime incidents, enhanced employee confidence in organisational safety measures, and significant cost savings from minimised security breaches and asset losses. Furthermore, CPCs contribute to cultivating a culture of shared responsibility, where employees actively participate in maintaining a secure work environment. This initiative reflects a forward-thinking approach to workplace safety, positioning Malaysian organisations as leaders in fostering safer, more inclusive, and resilient work environments that address both national and global priorities.
