Abstract
  • This paper looks into a piece entitled Qing Yu An-Lantern Festival (青玉案·元夕), poetry written by a Song Dynasty poet Xin Qiji (辛弃疾), musically set into art songs by three composers Liu Jinyu (刘瑾昱), Ao Changqun (敖昌群) and Li Yan (李砚). The authors provide a new version of English translation for mandarin text of Qing Yu An-Lantern Festival to facilitate readers with clearer explanation of the song text for musical interpretation. Three different versions of Qing Yu An-Lantern Festival by the above-mentioned composers were analyzed and studied proffering insights for potential performances by singers. In depth discussion of Li Yan’s version is included in this paper after online interviews with Li Yan following the immense popularity of his rendition in the musical communities among singers across the nation.
