Abstract
This study explores the integration of Malaysian folklore into game-based learning through the development of a 2D platform game titled Legenda Bujang Senang. Rooted in Sarawak’s cultural heritage, the game reimagines the legendary tale of Bujang Senang, a mythical crocodile, within an interactive digital environment. Designed with four levels, the game incorporates ten culturally significant objects, each accompanied by educational descriptions to enhance players’ understanding of Sarawak’s traditions. Sixty-Seven respondents of varying gender, age, and gaming experience completed a questionnaire to assess the potential of game-based learning in promoting Malaysian folklore and heritage. Additionally, twelve participants aged 12 to 17 engaged in gameplay testing to evaluate the game’s effectiveness in terms of engagement, cultural learning, and usability. Findings suggest that game-based learning can effectively foster interest in local heritage among younger audiences, offering a dynamic medium for cultural preservation and education.
