Abstract
  • The aim of this study was to investigate the relation of orientation, motivation intensity, and Chinese proficiency among the pre-service teachers of postgraduate Chinese Language Diploma of Education Program in Malaysian Institute of Teacher Education. This study adopted a quantitative research method and used a questionnaire for data collection. A total of 131 samples were selected by simple random sampling method from the population of the Institute of Teacher Education. The results indicated that the level of integrative orientation of the preservice teachers was slightly higher than their instrumental orientation. Furthermore, it was found that both orientations had a positive relation with motivation intensity.  The finding indicated that preservice teachers’ motivation intensity highly correlated to their Chinese Language achievement.  Finally, the researchers discussed some pedagogical implications that assist to enhance their intensity motivation in learning.
