It is noticed that one of the significant points in the lyrics of love song is the use of stylistic devices among which repetition is a commonly used one. With repetition, the lyrics become more impressive. This paper focuses on analyzing the use of repetition in love songs based on 400 samples of repetition collected from love songs in English and Vietnamese. The results have shown the similarities and differences between the two languages in terms of repetition use. Though there are some differences, the functions of repetition in the two languages are almost the same. The authors hope to bring about the modest contribution to improving the language learners’ competence in expressing their feelings effectively with repetition. Also, the result can help enhancing the efficiency of teaching and learning this stylistic device in English and Vietnamese.
