Abstract
Thrifting, often known as second-hand shopping, has also gradually gained popularity throughout the world, including Malaysia, in the last ten years. More consumers starting to be more conscious about sustainability issues cause by rapid fashion and textile waste, where the consumers are gradually shifting away from disposable fashion and toward second-hand clothes fashion. Therefore, this study explores Malaysian consumer’s repurchase intention and how their perspective on the sustainability of second-hand goods may influence their decision to purchase them. The theoretical framework of this study, the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), is used to analyze the intention to perform a certain behaviour, which includes 3 independent variables, which are attitude, social influence, and perceived behavioural control. To provide better insight, this research adapting an additional variable which is environmental concern. Using a quantitative approach, 387 respondents’ data is collected through a survey questionnaire from Malaysian consumers who have made second-hand clothing purchase. Correlation and multiple regression analysis are conducted to examine the relationships and impact between these variables. The study's findings indicated that only 3 independent variables (attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control) has a significant impact towards repurchase intention to buy second-hand clothing. While environmental concern does not have significant impact towards repurchase intention to buy second-hand clothing. The study addresses limitations such as insufficient variables that have been considered in this research, quantitative method and limitations on technology. This study gives more insight to the current knowledge by examining the specific variables that in impact repurchase intention of second-hand clothing among Malaysian consumer.
