Abstract
  • Amerika Latin adalah zon geografi penting bagi pengeluaran dan pengedaran dadah. Negara-negara Andean Colombia, Peru dan Bolivia adalah pengeluar kokain utama di dunia, manakala Amerika Tengah, Mexico dan Caribbean telah menjadi koridor utama untuk mengangkut dadah ke Amerika Syarikat dan Eropah. Akibatnya, negara-negara di rantau ini telah mengalami pelbagai akibat pengedaran dadah dan pembasmian dan penahanan kerja usaha Amerika Syarikat. Di negara-negara pengeluaran, ini termasuk kerosakan alam sekitar dan masyarakat dari pembasmian terpaksa tanaman coca seperti menyembur udara dan pembiayaan kumpulan gerila pemberontak melalui penanaman tanaman haram dan penjualan. Di seluruh rantau ini, dalam kedua-dua pengeluaran dan pengedaran dadah kawasan, telah terdapat peningkatan keganasan, rasuah, sewenang-wenangnya, penghakisan kedaulatan undang-undang, dan pelanggaran hak asasi manusia yang disebabkan oleh kemunculan kumpulan-kumpulan jenayah terancang yang kuat dan kartel dadah.
