Management Practices in The Implementation and Sustainability of Income-Generating Projects

Abstract
  • The Study focused on management practices in the implementation and sustainability of income-generating projects in the University of Eastern Philippine System in Northern Samar, Philippines. Descriptive -correlational method was utilized both quantitative and qualitative approach involving the project manager, project staff, auditor, accountant, campus director and student involved in IGPs operations. The survey questionnaire was the major gathering instrument to collect the data and was treated using appropriate statistical tools. Findings of the study revealed that the extent of implementation of the eleven (11) IGPs of the University system as to number of staff, number of years of operation and number of clients served was homogenous. On the extent of management practices of the 11 IGPs of the University system found to be high. As to extent of management level of sustainability of IGP in university system, out of eleven (11) IGPs; farmer’s center, UEP lights and sounds, Kiddie learning center, UEP garments & textile center, UEP Id making, and Engineering works were considered as sustainable projects, while UEP Hostel, Gymnatorium, University Prints, Ladies Dormitory and UEP kapihan (Cafeteria) falls under very less sustainable. Further, the level of IGP sustainability to support the university projects was sustainable. As to relationship between extent of management practices of carrying out different management function and level of sustainability; planning, organizing, leading and controlling were management functions that has direct influence and has direct correlation or influence on the extent of management practices and level of sustainability were IGPs that found out to be less sustainable. Statistically, findings revealed that the extent of implementation of the 11 IGPs as to number of staff, number of years in operation and average number of clients served are homogeneous.  The IGPs personnel has different level of management practices in carrying out the different management functions in planning, organizing, leading and controlling in UEP hostel, lady’s dormitory, UEP kapihan, University prints arts & sign and gymnatorium which found to be less sustainable projects. Based on the findings and conclusions of the study, the following recommendations are offered: action should be taken by the Technical Working Group of the university system to the implementation of the proposed intervention scheme drawn from the findings of the study. Specifically, to IGPs of the University system that were found out to be less sustainable.
