After PT. SIG acquired multinational company, PT. SBI to strengthen its position in cement market in Indonesia, SIG still struggling to survive in a very competitive market due to oversupply. Under that circumstance, SIG needs a strategy to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the company. The strategy that can be done is to improve the maintenance management system through knowledge management (KM). This research is aimed at studying the critical knowledge gap between SBI & SIG, the current knowledge management implementation and the challenge of knowledge management implementation to provide optimal KM framework solution. The study utilize primary data from management interviews and secondary data from corporate report, employing qualitative methodologies. The result indicates that the average score of SBI's maintenance management system still higher than of SIG's maintenance management system. There was still significant gap between the two companies, which needed to be eliminated by implementing proper knowledge management in both companies. This study use SECI framework to evaluate the current knowledge management implementation in both companies. The result shows that both companies SBI and SIG already have knowledge management programs, however, there are still many challenge so that its implementation is not effective. This study also employ PPT framework to provide KM solution to overcome challenge on KM implementation for both companies. This solution, hopefully, can improve the maintenance performance of SBI & SIG, so that it can have a positive impact on the company's efficiency and profitability in the long run. This study emphasizes the role of knowledge management as a strategic step for the organization that not only has an impact on solving operational problems, but also has an impact on the sustainability of the organization in the future.
