Abstract
This study examines the extent to which video editors in Arab media organizations utilize modern technologies in digital content production, exploring the motivations behind this employment and the associated professional and organizational challenges amid the sector’s rapid digital transformation. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, the study employed a survey to collect quantitative data from 176 video editors through a comprehensive census, complemented by in-depth interviews with 18 experts in video editing and digital content. The theoretical framework drew on Technological Determinism and Gatekeeping theories. Findings reveal a high adoption rate of modern technologies (77.6%), driven primarily by efficiency and productivity goals, including time and effort reduction, improved visual quality, and enhanced creative capacity. Nevertheless, structural and professional challenges were identified, notably the high costs of technology acquisition, difficulties in keeping pace with rapid technological developments, and the expansion of job responsibilities due to the integration of video editing with other production tasks such as filming and graphic design. The study recommends implementing sustainable institutional strategies to enhance video editors’ skills through specialized training programs and reorganizing professional roles within media production environments. Such measures can ensure the optimal use of modern technologies, improving both the quality and competitiveness of digital content.
