Abstract
  • A common ground for people to think about art and culture is to branch them as part of the entertainment industry. However, they are more than that. Both are interrelated entities dependent upon each other. It is considered an inseparable relationship. Art and culture are closely related to identity, ideology and the daily practice of a group of people. They are used to represent the core beliefs of a society. It is clear that art and culture reflect the lifestyle and thought patterns of the people in the surrounding area. The scope involving these two components is broad and complex. This two-part article first presents a brief synopsis of the state of the history of arts in Malaysia since its inception; and second, provides a brief description and explanation of five well-known artists representing an important period of the development of the history of arts in Malaysia. Finally, an aesthetic visual evaluation of their artworks is presented using the Feldman method in order to understand the motivation of this group of artists to portray their thought in an abstract manner.
