Persepsi pengguna terhadap diabetes dan cukai gula di Malaysia

Abstract
  • Kajian ini bertujuan menganalisis persepsi pengguna terhadap penyakit diabetes dan cukai gula di Malaysia. Penyakit diabetes merupakan penyakit pembunuh utama di Malaysia selain daripada penyakit atau serangan jantung. Gaya pemakanan masyarakat Malaysia yang lebih menggemari makanan dan minuman bergula adalah antara punca kepada penyakit diabetes ini. Bagi mengurangkan pengambilan gula oleh pengguna, kerajaan telah melaksanakan cukai ke atas minuman bergula yang siap diproses dan dibungkus (seperti minuman dalam tin dan botol yang melepasi kadar gula yang tertentu). Maka kajian ini menjalankan soalselidik untuk menganalisis kesan cukai gula kepada penggunaan gula. Bagi mencapai tujuan tersebut, tahap kefahaman pengguna terhadap penyakit diabetes dikaji dan apakah persepsi pengguna terhadap penggunaan gula, berapa banyakkah pengguna mengambil gula dalam sehari dan kesan cukai gula terhadap penggunaan gula turut dianalisis. Hasil kajian menunjukkan pengguna faham tentang penyakit diabetes dan tahu bahawa penggunaan gula yang berlebihan boleh menyebabkan penyakit diabetes. Walau bagaimanapun, pengguna kurang pasti sama ada cukai gula boleh mengurangkan penggunaan gula berlebihan. Hasil kajian juga menunjukkan lebih daripada 60% pengguna mengambil gula lebih daripada yang disarankan oleh WHO dalam kehidupan seharian.
