Abstract
  • Turnover intention among early career academicians has become ubiquitous and significantly impacts organizations. The quality of early career academicians is ultimately linked to the quality of higher education. Mitigating their intention of leaving is vital to the fundamental success of the organization. Therefore, it is essential to investigate their plan to quit. Career adaptability and work engagement can be crucial for those navigating their early academic career stages. Nevertheless, career adaptability is a double sword in minimizing turnover intention, as mixed findings were found in the literature. Hence, the core emphasis of this study is to reconcile the mixed findings between career adaptability and turnover intention among early-career academicians with the perspective of Conservation of Resource Theory. This study provides a conceptual model for understanding the effect of career adaptability towards turnover intention mediated by work engagement. Based on the available literature, many studies have shown the adequacy of career adaptability towards turnover intention, yet this has not been fully explored among early-career academicians.
