Malaysian tourist’s risk towards travel intention in Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract
  • The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the world's serious challenges in the 21st century, with clear negative impact for the global economy, rate of death, political and tourism issues. COVID-19 was declared a pandemic on December 19, 2019, in Wuhan, China, and had spread around the world by mid-March 2020. It affects to tourism industry in Malaysia become negative due to the diseases. There are a lot of risk perception will impact Malaysian tourists decrease their travel intention in COVID-19 pandemic. There are five categories of perceived risk affecting travel intention in COVID-19 pandemic: health risk, psychological risk, financial risk, destination risk and travel risk. An online questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 204 respondents. Descriptive analysis and inferential statistics was conducted to investigate the relationships between perceived risks affecting travel intention in COVID-19 pandemic. The results identify that there is a significant association between Health Risk, Financial Risk, and Destination Risk towards Malaysian tourists’ travel intention in COVID-19 pandemic. This also can help Malaysia tourism government department to contribute in deploying tourism plans in the future.
