The influence of career intervention on learning motivation among junior secondary school students of Nigeria: A comparative study

Abstract
  • This comparative study explores the influence of career intervention on learning motivation among junior secondary school students of Hadejia emirate, Jigawa state Nigeria. Career intervention programs aim to assist individuals in making informed decisions about their educational and vocational paths. However, the impact of career intervention on learning motivation remains relatively understudied in the Nigerian context. The study involved 240 participants from 12 selected schools in the Hadejia emirate of Jigawa state, Nigeria. A pre-test post-test control group design was employed, and data were collected using a questionnaire. The findings revealed a significant increase in learning motivation among students after the implementation of career intervention programs. No significant differences were observed between commercial, art, and science students, suggesting the effectiveness of career intervention across different subject streams. Additionally, no significant gender differences were found, indicating that career intervention benefits both male and female students in terms of learning motivation. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating evidence-based strategies and best practices identified through comparative analysis into career intervention initiatives to enhance learning motivation among junior secondary school students in Nigeria.
