Abstract
  • Competency is a very important measure to assess whether students have mastered each skill component that has been learnt in the lecture room or simulation skills laboratory and practice in real situations, namely in hospitals. As a role model, educators must first be knowledgeable and skilled in a subject being taught. In line with that, many scholars created various instruments or measurement scales. However, those instruments are based on the existing curriculum, theory, philosophy, and model of western countries, which is fundamentally different in religious understanding, culture, and disciplines in Islamic practices. Therefore, the development of Islamic competency to address this problem is needed. This development aims to develop the instrument Islamic competency using a design and development research (DDR) approach. The need analysis phase using an interview techniques and document analysis. The result of this study is important to ensure that the design and development of the Islamic competency instrument are implemented and have a positive impact on the Islamic integration in nursing curriculum.
