Abstract
  • North Korea's nuclear program has long been a source of concern because it affects cooperation, security, and stability. However, despite these initiatives, North Korea has persisted in developing its nuclear and ballistic missiles, raising regional tensions. This research analysis examines the impacts of North Korean nuclear weapons program on the Northeast Asia region, focusing on political stability, economic development, social cohesion, technological progress, environmental sustainability, and legal frameworks. The Rimland Theory and the concept of balance of power suggest that the program has contributed to an arms race and strategic instability in the region. While there may be some perceived benefits of the program regarding national prestige and deterrence, these are outweighed by the negative impacts on regional and international security. Overall, the ongoing challenge for policymakers and stakeholders is to address the program's threats while promoting regional cooperation and stabilisation.
