Abstract
This article investigates how people interact with public art in urban spaces using an observation matrix approach at six major public art sites in Chengdu, China. Using video behavior analysis, we documented multiple modes of interaction, including viewing, lingering, physical interaction, and photography. The results reveal spatial behavior patterns that reflect the physical design and cultural context of the artworks. These findings help understand how public art promotes urban placemaking through “embodied engagement.”
