Abstract
The objectives of the study are to understand the history behind the celebration of Osun Osogbo festival and identify various costumes and make-ups being used at the festival vis-a-vis establish both the cultural and aesthetic significance in the Festival and how this can in turn promote cultural tourism. Both cultural and aesthetic significance of costume and makeup and cultural tourism promotion, with a look at the famous Osun Osogbo festival were focused in this case study. Qualitative data were collected which includes Participatory Observation, Focused Group Discussions and Key Informant Interview in an ethnographic setting. Textbooks, relevant journals and seminar papers, video clips of the past Osun Osogbo festival were content analysed. Therefore, this work is limited how the costume and make up used in the festival can contribute to the development of cultural tourism.
