Abstract
Kampung Gumbang is one of the famous cultural identity villages and is rich in traditional Baruk heritage in Sarawak. Out of different historical buildings, Baruk has acquired deepened meaning due to ritualistic and religious ethics. This study utilizes related global resources, newsletters, academic articles database and field tour to draw on the values of traditional Baruk and unexplored challenges. The current study aimed to report the documentation of challenges and priority established by the local village in conserving the uniqueness of Baruk. A survey of challenges across the village was documented, such as fire risk, structural degradation, and other anthropogenic disturbances. Maintaining the identity of indigenous values is gaining importance in view of the growing importance of the sustainable culture of the Gumbang village. The survey result of our study has widened the perception of the need to conserve the Baruk not merely for heredity but also for the village implications intended for social significance.
