Efficiency of teleconferencing: A communication modality in the new normal education under low internet spot areas

Abstract
  • The study examined the teachers’ use of teleconferencing as communication modality in the new normal education. It focused in finding out the level of usability of teachers use of teleconferencing as to the medium used, exposures, and deployment of lessons, the circumstances and perceived benefits of teleconferencing as communication modality in new normal education under low internet spot areas. The descriptive-correlational research design using survey questionnaires was utilized to 130 teachers, respondent in seven school in Columbio Sultan Kudarat, using "complete enumeration" sampling. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentage, mean and pearson r correlation. The study revealed that the teleconferencing levels of teacher's use were triggered by “medium used” “exposures and deployment of lessons” was described as “Often” since the extent of effect on teachers was “frequently used”. However, teachers' feedback on different Circumstances of Teachers Use of Teleconferencing expressed that frequent network failures really affects their teleconferencing used. In the Perceived Benefits of Teachers Use of Teleconferencing, teachers' responded that teleconferencing reduces travel time and money, and will help teachers to reach out to colleagues in other schools, thereby eliminating professional isolation and loneliness. The result of the Pearson r Correlation α= 0.05 level of significance further explained that there is no significant relationship between the Socio-Demographic Characteristics (x) and Usability of Teleconference (y). Concern authorities (Deped, LGU, NGO, Stakeholders) may ensure that schools are adequately funded to aid internet connectivity maintenance, provision of alternative source of power supply and to ensure that the teleconferencing facility is periodically maintained so as to increase its efficiency.
